Apologetics And The Resurrection Of Christ

The foundation of Christianity is centered not just on the existence of Christ but also on the truth of one particular event: Christ’s resurrection. If Christ truly did die on the cross and rise from the dead three days later as each of the writers of the gospels in the New Testament emphasized, then it stands to reason that all of Christ’s teachings are worth listening to. If the resurrection never occurred, there are those that argue that you cannot, therefore, trust anything written in the New Testament.

There are five theories about the resurrection, four of which many believe show that it never happened. But biblical experts have refuted their arguments and shown that these very theories prove that it did happen.

Theory 1: This is based on eyewitness accounts of the events. Hundreds were said to be present at the crucifixion, and the disciples recorded the events, both of Christ’s death and of his resurrection and revelation to them and Mary Magdalene, in the Gospels. Others, however, have called these hallucinations that arose from a desire for Jesus to be alive. However, if this was the case, surely the authorities could have produced Christ’s body from the cave and proved the lie. This did not happen because they knew that there was no body in the tomb.

Theory 2: It has been suggested that the Gospels are myths, and were written as such, not as factual accounts. They were representational and not historical. Anybody reading the Gospels can see that to be wrong: the Gospels are presented as well-written eyewitness accounts of factual events. The disciples did see Jesus after his resurrection, and wrote in such a way as to leave no doubt about what and who they saw. There is nothing allegorical there, and certainly not the mythical way of writing that can be taken as fact after years of misinterpretation. The Gospels were written not long after the events and can be taken as accurately presenting what the writers saw with their own eyes.

Theory 3: The disciples could see that with Jesus dead they had nothing left, so they stole the body and made up the story of the resurrection. However, in spite of being martyred, and many of them and their followers being tortured, not one confessed to doing this even though some Christians broke and accepted Caesar as a god. No disciple ever claimed the resurrection to be a conspiracy to save his life.

Theory 4: Christ did not die but was taken down unconscious and entombed while he was alive, later recovering consciousness and being found by his followers and disciples. This cannot be because of the body of historical evidence of both blood and water flowing from his wound. The water is physiologically correct due to the accumulation of fluid that would have occurred in his lungs during the crucifixion. He would have bled to death while in his tomb, and would have had no strength to move the stone blocking it.

Theory 5: The final possibility is that the story of the resurrection is completely true – that Jesus did actually die on that cross, he rose from the dead three days later, and this became the basis of Christianity as we know it.

Many people and bodies, both secular and temporal, have set out to disprove the resurrection and so declare Christianity is based on a lie. Many of these have become Christians after studying the evidence, because they learned not only to think logically, but also spiritually, and came to the only possible conclusion: that the death of Christ and his resurrection are historical fact.

Cataclysmic Flood-The Flood Of The Bible

The Flood of the Bible is a great story to tell your kids one day, but are we just telling myths to our children? Well, the flood of the bible is not actually a myth and can be proven within the very earth we walk on.

There are billions of fossils found on the earth’s surface. Today we know there are fossils that have been found, seen, and documented and there will be many more to come. These fossils are historic markers of the very life that was in existence during the time Noah lived on the earth. But that is not proof in itself. How do we know there was actually a flood that the bible tells? Most of the fossils have been found buried deep in the sedimentation. They were found to be etched into rock by bits and pieces of rocks or other materials that have traveled by way of water or liquid pushing the materials to these new places. These pieces of rock were redeposited in the place they exist now. What is so amazing is that there is no place on earth where these particular fossils can not be found. What has moved these same animals, or vertebrates to different places on the earth? And how can a plant or tree living in Noah’s environment be found buried deep within a rock or a fish fossil be found on a mountain top? How can these things be explained?

The earth is made up of volcanic igneous and metamorphic rock. The majority of the earth is sedimentary and makes up 70% of the earth’s surface. These trees that were buried upside down on a mountain or sea urchins found on top of a mountain tell them these creatures had to have redeposited themselves by means of fast moving water or the flood of the bible. And these objects are not just found in one part of the world but in every part of the world.

The fossils found include shellfish, marine invertebrates, algae and plants. There are insects, land vertebrates and dinosaur bones as well. One may also recall a time when you have gone hiking or camping and found fossils of marine life on top of a mountain. These fossils are remnants of what many call, The Great Flood or the Flood of the Bible.

There is a lot to be studied when we consider the earth’s surface and what historical signs it points us to. But we can all see it is not a far fetched idea, because we have all, at one time or another seen a fossil and the mystery of the Flood of the Bible becomes less of a mystery and more of a truth.

Did Goliath Of The Bible Suffer From Gigantism?

The story of David and Goliath found in the Bible is probably one of the most well-known and often-told stories from the Old Testament. It carries with it a wonderful lesson – that no problem is too big in the eyes of God. If we see everything in the same perspective as God, huge problems and situations that seem impossible can be seen more clearly. We can deal with them more effectively, especially with God on our side.

The story explains the war that the Philistines initiated against King Saul and the Israelites. Goliath, a giant who towered 9-feet tall, was part of the army of the Philistines. Each day he came to the front lines of the fighting adorned in a full set of armor to intimidate the Israelites. Not one man was brave enough to take on Goliath. His mocking of Saul and the rest of the Israelite army was unrelenting.

While no “man” would fight Goliath, a young shepherd named David shook off his fear and doubt. With only a sling, a bag full of stones, and his faith in God, David confronted Goliath while shouting, “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.” Before Goliath could strike a blow, David pulled out his sling and struck Goliath in the forehead through the smallest of openings in his armor. Goliath dropped to the ground and was dead.

Tales from the bible are often the source of interest to scientists seeking to find the truth or fiction in them. This story is one that has fascinated them for years. Physicians have suggested that Goliath was actually a man afflicted with a disease called acromelagy or “gigantism”. The pituitary gland in people who suffer from this disease releases excess amounts of growth hormones, causing them to become unusually tall. If this theory were true, Goliath would probably have succumbed to this disease at any time.

But why was David so easily able to sneak up on the giant in order to kill him? Scientists explain this by saying that a side effect of gigantism is partial blindness or tunnel vision. The secretion of excess growth hormones by the pituitary gland is normally caused by the formation of a tumor. This tumor could have compressed the giant’s optic chiasm, the part of the brain where the optic nerves cross. With impaired sight and no peripheral vision, David could easily have gotten close enough to Goliath to get off the fatal shot.

Others who are skeptical ask how a single stone could bring down the fearsome giant. The tumor is also the explanation for this. If it was the tumor that was struck by the rock, it may have ruptured and then bled, causing Goliath to die.

Even if Goliath’s size was a direct result of gigantism, this should not take away from the David’s bravery and faith in the face of danger. Neither the Philistines, the Israelites, nor the young shepherd David understood why Goliath was such a giant. The lesson still holds that God can make anything possible if you have faith.

The Connotation Of Wisdom In History

Wisdom means different things to different people. It also has different connotations from one culture to another. Generally speaking, it refers to the deep understanding of the why and how. It is usually gained by many years of life experience and studying the revelations of others. It involves using knowledge and perceptions relating to people, things, and life experiences to make appropriate choices when faced with a particular situation.

The ancient Greeks referred to wisdom as a virtue. This virtue is synonymous with insight. In order to make a wise decision, one must be able to discern reason from emotions. Good decisions are attributed to the void of emotion and utilizing reason as the sole tool in making smart choices. Steady insight rather than a whirlwind of emotion is the basis of good choices.

Aristotle believed that one gained wisdom by understanding of how and why things exist in the world. No human can possibly know the answers to everything so people needed to take the information that they did know and formulate a decision by deciphering which one is the better of them. Putting all of the available pieces of the puzzle together and determining which would be best based on past experience led to wise choices.

Freethinkers agreed with Aristotle in terms of his belief that reason and experience was the backbone of this virtue. However, they also believed that intuition played a part as well. Along with this, they thought that spirituality had a role in helping one with appropriate decision making. All of these pieces together would lead to a much more intellectual decision.

Today, many people believe that it is taught for the most part. A person could be faced with a challenge and have several options to choose from as a resolution. This is done by comparing and contrasting what they have learned to experience and prior knowledge. A wise person would be able to look at all of the available choices and select the best one.

Age and being wise are usually seen as being all in the same. Typically, the longer one lives, the wiser one is. This is not necessarily true because not everyone lives the same kind of life. It needs to be considered that people live different kinds of lives and are exposed to many different things. An old man who has been sheltered may not be as wise as the young man who has experienced much of the world.

Experience, knowledge, perception, insight, and reason are the basis of wisdom. With these also comes intellect. As long as choices are made for the better of a person or a situation, they can be thought of as wise decisions.

We’ve got the ultimate inside scoop on the history and meaning of Wisdom now in our complete Bible book overview.
